The installation is required only for the first time. Contents to be installed and procedures may differ depending on your OS. z Tips • See page 78 when you use a Macintosh computer. Installing the “First Step Guide” 1 Confirm that your camcorder is not connected to the computer. 2 Turn on the computer. b Notes • Log on as an Administrator for installation. • Close all applications running on the computer before installing the software. 3 Place the supplied CD-ROM in the disc drive of your computer. The installation screen appears. If the screen does not appear 1 Click [Start], then click [My Computer]. (For Windows 2000, double-click [My Computer].) 2 Double-click [SONYPICTUTIL (E:)] (CD-ROM) (disc drive).* * Drive names (such as (E:)) may vary depending on the computer. 4 Click [FirstStepGuide]. 5 Select the desired language and the model name of your camcorder from the pull-down menu. 6 Click [FirstStepGuide(HTML)]. Installation starts. When [Save is complete] appears, click [OK] to finish the installation. To view the “First Step Guide” in PDF In step 6, click [FirstStepGuide(PDF)]. To install the software “Adobe Reader” to display the PDF file In step 6, click [Adobe(R) Reader(R)]. Installing the software 1 Perform steps 1 to 3 in “Installing the “First Step Guide”” (p. 76). 2 Click [Install]. 3 Select the language for the application to be installed, then click [Next]. 4 4 The software to be installed will be configured according to your country/ region. 5 Read [License Agreement], select [I accept the terms of the license agreement] when you agree, then click [Next]. 6 Slide the POWER switch repeatedly to turn on the PLAY/ EDIT lamp after the connection confirmation display appears. 7 Connect your camcorder and computer with an i.LINK cable or USB cable. When connecting with a USB cable, [USB SELECT] appears on the screen of your camcorder. Select [ Memory Stick]. Click [Next] after connection is complete. A message stating that you need to restart may appear, but you do not need to restart at this time. Restart the computer after the installation is complete. 8 Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software. Depending on the computer, you may need to install third party software (shown below). If the installation screen appears, follow the instructions to install the required software. x Microsoft DirectX 9.0c-Software required to handle movies x Windows Media Format 9 Series Runtime (Windows 2000 only)-Software required to create a DVD Restart the computer if required to complete the installation. 9 Remove the CD-ROM from the disc drive of your computer. The short-cut icons, such as [ ] (“Picture Motion Browser”), appear on the desktop. Using a Computer z Tips • For the information about disconnecting the cable, refer to “First Step Guide.” 77 Viewing “First Step Guide” Viewing “First Step Guide” z Tips • You can also start by selecting [Start] t [Programs] ([All Programs] for Windows XP) t [Sony Picture Utility] t [FirstStepGuide] t Your camcorder’s folder t “First Step Guide” in HTML. • To view “First Step Guide” in HTML without installing, copy the desired language folder from the [FirstStepGuide] folder on the CD-ROM, and then double-click [Index.html]. • Refer to your camcorder’s “First Step Guide” in PDF (p. 76) in the following cases: – When printing the desired topics of “First Step Guide” – When “First Step Guide” is not displayed correctly due to the browser setting even in recommended environment. – When the HTML version of “First Step Guide” cannot be installed. Using a Macintosh computer You can copy the still images from the “Memory Stick Duo” to the Macintosh. Install “First Step Guide” in the supplied CD-ROM. b Notes • The supplied software “Picture Motion Browser” does not operate on Mac OS. • You also need to make certain settings on your camcorder when importing movies to a computer with commercially available editing software. For details, refer to “First Step Guide.” System requirements To copy still images from a “Memory Stick Duo” OS: Mac OS 9.1/9.2 or Mac OS X (v10.1/ v10.2/v10.3/v10.4). Others: USB port (this must be provided as standard) About “First Step Guide” The “First Step Guide” is an instruction manual you can refer to on your computer. This describes basic operations, from initial hookup of your camcorder and computer and making settings, to general operation the first time you use the software. Referring to “Installing the “First Step Guide””, start the “First Step Guide,” then follow the instructions. To install “First Step Guide” Copy “FirstStepGuide(PDF),” stored in the desired language folder in the [FirstStepGuide] folder, to your computer.
