After 30 seconds, release control knob. Now follow step 8, page 14. INSPECTING BURNERS Check pilot flame pattern and burner flame patterns often. PILOT FLAME PATTERN Figure 24 shows a correct pilot flame pattern. Figure 25 shows an incorrect pilot flame pattern. The incorrect pilot flame is not touching the thermocouple. This will cause the thermocouple to cool. When the thermocouple cools, the heater will shut down. Thermocouple Pilot Burner Figure 24 - Correct Pilot Flame Pattern Thermocouple If pilot flame pattern is incorrect, as shown in Figure 25 • turn heater off (see To Turn Off Gas to Appliance, column 1) • see Troubleshooting, pages 16through 18 CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE A WARNING: Turn off heater and let cool before cleaning. A CAUTION: You must keep control areas, burner, and circulating air passageways of heater clean. Inspect these areas of heater before each use. Have heater inspected yearly by a qualified service person. Heater may need more frequent cleaning due to excessive lint from carpeting, bedding material, etc. ODS/PILOT AND BURNER • Use a vacuum cleaner or small, soft bristled brush to clean. LOGS • If you remove logs for cleaning, refer to Installing Logs, page 13, to properly replace logs. • Replace log(s) if broken or chipped (dime-sized or larger). 104256 15 VANGUARD FLAME-MAX™ UNVENTED PROPANE/LP GAS LOG HEATER TROUBLESHOOTING Note: All troubleshooting items are listed in order of operation. A WARNING: Turn off and unplug heater and let cool before servicing. Only a qualified service person should service and repair heater. A CAUTION: Never use a wire, needle, or similar object to clean ODS/pilot. This can damage ODS/ pilot unit. OBSERVED PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE REMEDY When ignitor button is pressed, there is no 1.
