Avoid touching the glass portion of the lamp with your hands. page 2 7. Insert the ceramic tip of the lamp into the UV port and twist the lamp connector clockwise to lock in place. (See Figure 3) Figure 3 8. With unit still UNPLUGGED, insert the lamp power connector into the recessed receptacle on the unit. (See Figure 4) Figure 4 9. Remove one of the four filters from its plastic bag and place it in the drawer with arrow/carbon side up. (See Figure 6) 11. Slide the filter drawer with filter back into the base unit. Press firmly until drawer catches. Figure 6 NOTE: The positive catch eliminates vibration and ensures proper function of the filter. 12. Unwind the power cord from underneath the unit and insert plug into any standard 120-volt outlet. 13. Turn the speed control knob clockwise to turn the unit on. After the fan has started, the LED lights will show a continuous GREEN color and the LCD will indicate 365 days left for the lamp and 90 days for the filter. (See Figure 7) Figure 7 NOTE: If the LCD display reads differently use the point of a pen or paper clip to press the reset button beside the LED for either the lamp or the filter to reset the days as shown above. OPERATION 1. Place the UV-500C in the desired area; plug the power cord into a standard 120-volt wall receptacle. 2. Turn the speed control knob clockwise to turn on the unit and to adjust the motor/fan speed to the desired airflow. (See Figure 7) 3. After the fan has started, the LED light for the lamp and filter will show a continuous GREEN color indicating proper unit operation. WARNING: Never expose eyes or skin to UVC light from any source. Avoid touching the glass portion of the lamp with your hands. page 4 MAINTENANCE 1. Replace 10"x 10" intake filter every 90 days. The LED beside the filter indicator will turn RED and the display will say FILTER: CHANGE when it is time to replace the filter. 2. Replace your UV-Aire® Air Purifying System lamp once a year to maintain the lamp’s maximum output intensity. The lamp should operate continuously for maximum lamp life and light effectiveness. The LED beside the lamp indicator will turn RED and the display will say LAMP: CHANGE when it is time to replace the lamp. REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES REPLACING THE UV LAMP Figure 8 VERY IMPORTANT: Turn the speed control switch on unit to OFF position and unplug unit from outlet or turn off power to the unit before replacing the UV lamp. 1. Loosen the screw on the lamp access door on the back of the UV-500C. (See Figure 8) 2. Open the door to expose the lamp connection. Disconnect the lamp connection, then rotate lamp-mounting knob counterclockwise and pull the lamp out of the unit. (See Figures 10 & 11) 4. Remove lamp carefully by un-plugging the lamp from the lamp- mounting knob. (See Figure 12) NOTE: When replacing the lamp, always wipe off lamp with the supplied alcohol wipe before installing. 5. Plug the new lamp onto the lamp-mounting knob. (See Figure 12) 6. Guide the other end of the lamp through the hole in the UV chamber. (See Figure 11) 7. Secure the lamp into position by rotating the lamp-mounting knob clockwise. NOTE: UV lamps contain a small amount of mercury, like a typical fluorescent lamp. According to the EPA’s Universal Waste Rule, these types of lamps may be disposed of into household waste. Check with your local waste management authority for local disposal or recycling requirements. 8. Plug the lamp power leads back into the power connection. (See Figure 10) 9. Close the access door and install the access door screw. (See Figure 8) 10. Plug the power cord back into the wall receptacle or restore power to the UV-500C. Figure 11 Figure 12 11.
