The burners are designed to light at any valve rotation that admits sufficient gas flow to support a flame and to automatically relight following a loss of flame due to a draft or other adverse condition. This feature is provided as a convenience and is not intended as a safety feature. Burner Ignition Cooktop Spark Ignition. When you turn the cooktop knob to LITE, the spark igniter makes a series of electric sparks (ticking sounds) which light the burner. During a power failure, the burners will not light automatically. In an emergency, a cooktop burner may be lit with a match by following the steps below. The Burner Flames Turn each burner on. Flames should be blue in color with no trace of yellow.
