LED Descriptions Ethernet • Solid. The Ethernet port is linked, but there is no activity. • Blinking. There is traffic between an Ethernet port and the Powerline network. • Off. There is no Ethernet connection. Powerline • Solid. The adapter is connected to a Powerline network. • Fast Blinking. The adapter is sending or receiving data. • Slow Blinking. The adapter is going into power saving mode. • Off. The adapter has not found any other compatible Powerline devices using the same encryption key. The Pick A Plug feature lets you pick the electrical outlet with the strongest link rate, indicated by the color displayed by the LED: Green: Link rate > 80 Mbps Orange: Link rate > 50 and < 80 Mbps Red: Link rate < 50 Mbps The LED should be Green for best performance. Power • Solid. The electrical power is on. • Blinking. The adapter is in the process of resetting, power saving mode, or security setup. • Off. There is no electrical power. Security Button and Reset Button Use Push 'N' Secure to set the security on your Powerline adapters by pressing the Security button. For more information, see the XAV1004 Powerline AV Ethernet Adapter User Manual, available at Warning: Do not press the Security button on the XAV1004 until installation is complete and the adapters have established a connection with each other. Prior to using the Security button, the Ethernet cable(s) should be plugged in and the connected device(s) powered on to prevent the adapter from going into power saving mode. When power saving mode is on, the Security button does not work. Press the Factory Reset button for 2 seconds to return the XAV1004 to its factory default settings. August 2011 Ethernet Port Traffic Priority (QoS) When connecting devices to your Ethernet ports, be aware of the Quality of Service (QoS) priorities assigned for each port: • Port 1 (dark green) has HIGH priority, and gives uninterrupted service to the connected device. Devices you would connect to Port 1 include media servers, storage devices, gaming consoles, video players, or internet telephones. • Port 2 (light green) has MEDIUM priority. You can connect devices such as gaming consoles, video players, or internet telephones to this port. • Ports 3 and 4 (yellow) have LOW priority, and are best for networking data devices, such as printers. Troubleshooting Tips Power LED is off. Make sure that power is supplied to the electrical outlet, and that the Powerline devices are not plugged into an extension cord, power strip, or surge protector. Powerline LED is off. • Make sure that the Powerline devices are plugged into outlets with power. • Move the Powerline device to a closer location. • If you have set network security, make sure that all Powerline devices are using the same encryption key. • Reset the devices to factory default settings. Refer to the User Manual for instructions. Powerline LED is red. The color of the Powerline LED indicates the speed of the Powerline link. If the LED is red, the speed is less than 40 Mbps. Switch to another electrical outlet until the LED displays solid green. Ethernet LED is • Make sure that your router and modem are on and working correctly. not blinking. • Make sure that the Ethernet cables are working and securely plugged into the devices. • Reset the devices to factory default settings. Your Powerline adapter can share a Powerline network with these compatible NETGEAR devices: XAV101, XAV1101, XAV2001, XAV1301, XAV1601, XAV2501, XAV5001, XAV5501, XAV5601, XAV5004, XAV2602, and XAVN2001.
