(Illustration) INSTALLING A BACK-UP BATTERY Your clock radio has a back-up power system that operates the clock and alarm during a power failure. The display turns off, but the clock keeps running for at least 8 hours (depending on battery strength), and the alarm sounds at the alarm time for at least 10 minutes. The Battery Sentinel indicator, a small red dot at the bottom right of the display, appears if the battery is not installed or needs to be replaced. (Illustration) 2 Your clock radio requires a 9-volt battery (not supplied) for its back-up power system. For the best performance, we recommend an alkaline battery, such as RadioShack Cat. No. 23-553. Caution: Use only a fresh battery of the required size and recommended type. Note: To prevent unnecessary drain on the battery, install it only after connecting the clock radio to AC power. 1. Lift the battery compartment latch in the direction of the arrow and pull off the cover. (Illustration) 2. Snap the clock radio’s battery contacts onto the battery terminals, then insert the battery into the compartment. The Battery Sentinel indicator turns off. 3. Replace the cover. Caution: Do not leave an old or weak battery in the clock radio. Batteries can leak and damage the clock’s electronic parts. Warning: Always dispose of an old battery promptly and properly. (Hold down HOUR to continuously advance the digits.) (Illustration) Note: The PM indicator appears on the bottom left corner of the display during PM hours. 2. While holding down TIME, press MINUTE. The minute digits advance by 1 with each press. (Hold down MINUTE to continuously advance the digits.) (Illustration) PLAYING THE RADIO 1. Slide ALARM/AUTO/OFF/ON to ON. (Illustration) 2. Slide AM/FM to the desired band. (Illustration) 3. Rotate TUNING to the desired station. (Illustration) Note: The AM antenna is built-in. Turn the clock radio for the best AM reception. For the best FM reception, fully extend the power cord (which is the FM antenna). 4. Rotate VOLUME to the desired sound level. (Illustration) 5. The time advances by 1 minute with each press. (Hold down MINUTE to continuously advance the digits.) To display the preset alarm time at any time, press ALARM. 4 Turning the Alarm ON/OFF To wake to the alarm sound, slide ALARM/AUTO/OFF/ON to ALARM. At the preset alarm time, the alarm sounds and the nightlight turns on, then the alarm automatically turns off after 1 hour, 59 minutes.
