Using HP Web Services for Output
Server
HP Web Services for Output Server is an application that enables HP Output Server job management, document
transfer, and delivery pathway management remotely through SOAP over HTTP protocol. With HP Web Services for
Output Server, you can do the following:
•
Submit, query, cancel, resubmit, pause, resume, and modify jobs
•
Manage delivery pathways, logical and physical destinations, and queues
•
Manage SAP Print Path Management functions
With HP Web Services for Output Server, data is transferred in the form of XML (contracts), which makes it
client-agnostic. The clients written in Java and .NET can access HP Web Services for Output Server, create the SOAP
messages required by the contracts.
HP Web Services for Output Server has been designed to simplify and improve integration of Business Applications
with HP Output Server. It provides a list of functions that can be called from an external
applications/programs/scripts as long as they can create the adequate SOAP messages, which requires an
understanding of Web Services. HP recommends that you use HP Professional Services for such integrations. HP
Support will address and resolve any standard issues with HP Web Services for Output Server operating features and
functionality, but will not answer coding and programming questions.
All administrators (system, Web, network, Output Server, and so on) should review this document prior to installing
HP Output Server to ensure compliance with the standards and practices of the host IT environment for Web services
technology. For example, the Web administrator may wish to secure the Web Services for Output Server on the Web
server host by restricting IPs.
Prerequisites
Install the following software before using Web Services for Output Server:

HP Output Server 4.0
For more information about installing HP Output Server, see the Installation and Configuration Guide for HP
Output Server 4.0.

HP Web Services for Output Server is deployed automatically as part of the HP Output Server 4.0 installation.
JBoss 4.2.2, JBoss WS Stack 2.0.3, and Apache Tomcat embedded servlet container are also installed along with
HP Output Server 4.0.
Limitations
You can use some special characters that are passed to Web Services for Output Server in the form of XML.
