2 If the “Apple Talk” dialog box appears, click [Turn It Off]. Then, in the dialog box that appears next, click [OK]. Installing & Setup the Driver 3 The “Create a New Studio setup” dialog box will appear. Click [OK]. * If the “Create a New Studio setup” dialog box does not appear, click [New Studio setup] in the [File] menu. 4 The “OMS Driver Search” dialog box will appear. Click [Search]. Installing & Setup the Driver 5 After the search has been completed, make sure that “Roland UM-4” is listed in the “OMS Driver Setup” dialog box, and click [OK]. 6 After making sure that the UM-4 is listed in the “OMS MIDI Device Setup” dialog box, click each check box for Port1 through Port4 to check them all, and click [OK]. Installing & Setup the Driver 7 The “Save” dialog box will appear. Input the desired file name, and click [Save]. 8 If a sound module is connected to a MIDI connector of the UM-4, select [Test Studio] in the [Studio Menu] and check it in order to Test Studio whether sound is produced. * The following step will cause a relatively loud sound to be produced by the sound module, so turn down the volume of your sound module before continuing. Installing & Setup the Driver 9 In the “My Studio Setup Window,” click the keyboard icon. When you move the mouse cursor near the keyboard icon, the cursor will change to the shape of an eighth note. Verify that you can hear sound from your sound module. * Port 1 is MIDI IN / OUT 1 of the UM-4 Port 2 is MIDI IN / OUT 2 of the UM-4 Port 3 is MIDI IN / OUT 3 of the UM-4 Port 4 is MIDI IN / OUT 4 of the UM-4 After you have finished the above check, exit OMS Setup. This completes driver settings. 10 Installing & Setup the Driver Using FreeMIDI on the Macintosh The UM-4 FreeMIDI Driver included on the disc is provided as an additional module that allows the UM-4 to be used with FreeMIDI. In order to use it, FreeMIDI must already be installed on the start-up hard disk. The UM-4 Driver included on the disc is provided as an additional module that allows the UM-4 to be used with FreeMIDI. In order to use it, FreeMIDI must already be installed on the start-up hard disk. Turn on the power of the computer to start up your Macintosh. Use a USB cable to connect the UM-4 to your computer (P.11). The message shown in the diagram will appear. Click [OK]. Insert the UM Driver CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. Installing the UM-4 Driver When Using S-MPU64 The UM-4 Driver is compatible with the S-MPU64. However, you cannot use the UM-4 Driver and the S-MPU64 Driver at the same time. If you have already installed the S-MPU64 Driver in your computer, be sure to follow the procedure written below to delete the S-MPU64 Driver and install the UM-4 Driver. Remove the files in the System folder written below and restart your Macintosh. Then install the UM-4 Driver. • the “USBSMPU64Driver” file in the “Extensions” folder • the “SMPU64 Driver” file in the “FreeMIDI Folder” folder In the “UM Driver E” -“UM-4” folder of the CD-ROM, double-click the “UM4 FreeMIDI Driver-E Installer” icon to start up the installer. 1 Installing & Setup the Driver 2 Click [Install]. If the dialog box that all other currently-running applications will be exited appears, click [Continue]. 3 When installation is completed, click [Restart] to restart your computer. This completes installation of the UM-4 Driver. Next you will make FreeMIDI settings. FreeMIDI settings 1 Open the “FreeMIDI Applications” folder, and double-click the “FreeMIDI Setup” icon. * There will be a version number following “FreeMIDI Setup” as the actual icon name. 2 The first time FreeMIDI is started up, a “Welcome to FreeMIDI!” dialog box will appear. Click [Continue]. If this is the second or later time, select “FreeMIDI Preferences” from the File menu. Installing & Setup the Driver 3 In the “FreeMIDI Preferences” dialog box, check “UM-4 Port” which is located below UM-4 Driver in MIDI Configuration, and click [OK]. 4 If the dialog box does not show “UM-4 Driver,” check whether the UM-4 is connected correctly, and start up FreeMIDI Setup once again. The About Quick Setup dialog box will appear. Click [Continue]. Installing & Setup the Driver 5 In the dialog box that appears, select the MIDI equipment that is connected to each port of the UM-4, and click [>>Add>>]. Manufacturer: Select the manufacturer of your MIDI equipment. If the appropriate manufacturer does not appear in the list, select “Other.” Model: Select the model of your MIDI equipment. If the appropriate model does not appear in the list, select “Other.” Studio Location: Select “UM-4,” and for “Cable” that appears below it, select the port to which your MIDI equipment is connected. 6 If two or more units of MIDI equipment are connect, repeat step 5.
