2 Press CLOCK/TIMER SET on the remote. 3 Press + or – on the remote repeatedly to select “REC SET?”, then press ENTER/YES on the remote. “ON” appears and the hour indication flashes. 4 Set the time to start recording. Press + or – on the remote repeatedly to set the hour, then press ENTER/YES on the remote. The minute indication flashes. Notes • You cannot activate the Daily Timer and recording timer at the same time. • If you use the recording timer and the Sleep Timer at the same time, the Sleep Timer has priority. • Do not operate the system from the time the system turns on until the recording starts (about 15 seconds before the preset time). • If the system is on about 15 seconds before the preset time, the timer-recording will not be activated. • The volume is reduced to minimum during recording. Enjoying virtual surround sound VES (Virtual Enhanced Surround) lets you enjoy surround sound effects by using sound imaging to create virtual rear speakers from the sound of the front speakers (L, R) without using actual rear speakers. Each time you press the button, the surround effect changes. 40GB Effects of each item VES (Virtual Enhanced Surround) TV Uses sound imaging to create virtual rear speakers from the sound of the front speakers (L, R) without using actual rear speakers (shown below). The sound imaging effect is distinct and clearly reproduces each aural element of the audio track. This mode is effective when the distance between the front L and R speakers is short, such as with built-in speakers on a stereo TV. TV L R VIRTUAL SEMI MULTI DIMENSION Uses sound imaging to create 5 sets of virtual rear speakers from the sound of the front speakers (L, R) without using actual rear speakers. The virtual speakers are reproduced as shown in the illustration below. This gives the sound an expanded effect that fills the area surrounding the listener. LR VES (Virtual Enhanced Surround) NIGHT The large sounds, such as explosions, are compressed, but the quieter sounds are unaffected. This feature is useful when you don’t want to disturb other people but still want to hear the dialog and enjoy the surround sound effects of VIRTUAL SEMI MULTI DIMENSION. VES (Virtual Enhanced Surround) A Uses sound imaging to create 3 sets of virtual rear speakers from the sound of the front speakers (L, R) without using actual rear speakers. The virtual speakers are reproduced as shown in the illustration below. Use this setting to enhance the sound quality. LR L : Front speaker (left) R : Front speaker (right) : Virtual speaker continued Sound Adjustment 41GB Enjoying virtual surround sound (continued) Notes • When you select an item, the sound cuts off for a moment. • When the playing signal does not contain a signal for the rear speakers, the surround effects may be difficult to hear. • Make sure that your listening position is between and at an equal distance from your speakers, and that the speakers are located in similar surroundings. Otherwise, the VES effect may be hard to discern. • “VES NIGHT” only works with Dolby Digital discs. However, not all discs will respond to the “VES NIGHT” in the same way. • If you use the DIGITAL OUT jack, sound will come from your speakers but it will not have the VES effect.
