Form No. 724297-01 ' (Feb.78-PS) Printed in U.S.A. OWNER’S MANUAL AC GENERATORS SAFETY RULES FOR AC GENERATOR 1. Keep guards in place. 2. Use generator only in a well ventilated area. Engine exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide, which is odorless, and a deadly poison. 3. Do not fill gasoline tank while the engine is running. Do not spill gasoline on a hot engine. 4. Drain all gasoline from gas tank before storing generator in a closed area. Allow engine to run until dry to assure complete removal of gasoline. 5. Avoid accidental starting. Keep “stop” switch in contact with spark plug when generator is not in use. 6. Do not remove rubber isolation mounts from bottom of unit. When servicing, replace with identical B&D replacement mounts. 7. Do not touch engine spark plug or muffler. 8. Maintain generator with care. Keep generator clean for best and safest performance. Follow instructions for lubricating and servicing generator. 9. Do not adjust engine governor. Engine speed is factory adjusted for 3600 rpm. 10. Do not overfuse. Replace blown fuses with identically rated fuse. 11. Remove electric tool plug from generator receptacle when servicing tool. 12. Avoid dangerous environment. Don't expose generator to rain. 13. Use only extension cords that are suitable for use outdoors, and so marked. STABILITY The generator should be placed on a solid, level surface for. proper engine lubrication and operation. Avoid operating the unit on an incline, -If there is any indication that the generator could shift its position during operation, the use of tie-downs is recommended. PERMANENT INSTALLATION For permanent generator installation, contact a registered electrician in your area to assure compliance with all local electrical and building codes. EXHAUST Generator must be operated in a well ventilated area to provide adequate cooling air for the engine and proper dissipation of engine exhaust fumes. LUBRICATION Before starting your generator, follow the lubrication procedure as outlined in the Briggs & Stratton Engine manual included with your generator. Important: Using the correct lubrication, changing the oil at the recommended intervals and cleaning the air filters will extend engine life. GENERATOR START-UP The following procedure should be followed when starting the generator: 1. Check oil level for proper amount of oil in crankcase. 2. Fill gasoline tank with fresh, clean gasoline. To extend engine life, the use of unleaded regular gasoline is recommended. 3. Remove any electric plugs that may be in the receptacle. 4. Pull carburetor choke located under air cleaner. 5. Release “stop" switch from spark plug. 6. Take a firm, balanced position and pull the rope starter with a quick, smooth pull to crank the engine. 7. After engine starts, return choke to its normal position. In cold temperatures, it may be necessary to keep the choke in the choke position longer. 8. Allow generator to warm up a few minutes before plugging in tools. GENERATOR SHUT-DOWN To stop generator, simply place “stop" switch against spark plug until the engine comes to a complete stop. If storing or refueling generator, follow instructions for proper procedures. MAINTENANCE Engine: Refer to Briggs & Stratton Engine Manual included with your generator. Generator: Routine maintenance is not required (there is only one moving part in the generator itself). However, if repair work is needed, see service addresses under “TOOLS, ELECTRIC” in the Yellow Pages. EXTENSION CORD When using a tool at a considerable distance from power source, a 3-conductor, grounding-type extension cord of adequate size must be used for safety, and to prevent loss of power and over-heating. Use the table below to determine the minimum wire size required. Use only three wire extension cords which have three-prong grounding-type plugs and three-pole receptacles which accept the tool's plug. Replace or repair damaged cords immediately.
