Tip: If plaque is removed properly, the gums will have a pink colour and firmly surround the teeth. Healthy gums do not bleed when you eat or brush your teeth (see also the section ‘taking optimal care of your teeth’). If, never theless, your gums bleed slightly the first few times you use the brush, this bleeding will generally stop after a few days. If it does not, consult your dentist or dental hygienist. Minimum brushing time: 2 minutes . In general, 2 minutes will be enough to clean your teeth properly. . Therefore the brush is equipped with a red pilot light that will blink for 40 seconds when you have been brushing for 2 minutes (only type HX2740). . Naturally, you can also brush longer than 2 minutes. After using the toothbrush C 1 C 2 Let the toothbrush run while you rinse the brush head under the tap. Use lukewarm water (max. 60°C). Brush head replacement Replace the brush head every three months for the best brushing results. . The brush head should also be replaced when the bristles star t to splay. . New brush heads are available from the shop in which you have purchased your Philips Jordan toothbrush. Tip:Worn bristles will move plaque around rather than remove it. They may also damage the gums. It is therefore impor tant that you replace the brush head ever y three months. Environmental aspects When you discard the toothbrush in due course, remove the batter y and dispose of it in an environmentally safe way. . NB:You can also hand the toothbrush in at a Philips Ser vice Centre, which will dispose of the batter y for you. . Before you remove the batter y, it must be completely empty. Let the toothbrush run until is stops before removing the batter y. 12 ENGLISH C 1 C 2 . NB: Only unscrew the bottom of the toothbrush if you want to remove the batter y. After the bottom has been unscrewed, the toothbrush may not be water tight anymore.Therefore the guarantee will become invalid if the bottom of the toothbrush has been unscrewed. If undamaged, the sticker on the bottom of the toothbrush will prove that the toothbrush has not been opened. Directions for use: Oral Water Jet When you use the Oral Water Jet for the first time or when you have not been using it for a couple of days: Click the jet tip onto the appliance. Remove the water reservoir from its base. ENGLISH 13 Fill the water reservoir with water. C 3 C 4 C 5 Put the water reservoir back onto its base. Press it home properly. Press the power button to switch the Oral Water Jet on. C 6 Push the switch slide on the handgrip upwards to start the water running. . When you use the Oral Water Jet for the first time, let the appliance run until the water reser voir is completely empty. Refill the water reser voir. Tip: You may add mouthwash for extra freshness to the water. After using mouthwash, fill the water reser voir with clean water and pump all the water out of the appliance and into the washbasin. 14 ENGLISH How to use the Oral Water Jet C 1 C 2 C 3 C 4 1 2 Select position • for cleaning. Bend over the washbasin and hold the jet tip close to your teeth. Press the power button to switch the Oral Water Jet on. Push the switch slide upwards to start the water running. C 5 Guide the water jet along the front and the back sides of the teeth and along the gums, and direct it especially at the spaces between the teeth to remove any remaining food particles. . Make sure that the water jet is at right angles to the teeth. . Do not direct the water jet at the gums in such way that the jet penetrates beneath the gum line. . You can switch the water supply off with the switch slide before changing the position of the jet tip in your mouth. ENGLISH 15 Adjust the water volume by turning the control ring. C 6 C 7 C 8 C 9 C 1 MAX Press the MAX button if you want to use maximum jet power for a short time (especially when cleaning under bridgework). . Release the button to switch back to the set water volume. Tip: We advise you to use a low water volume setting while you are getting accustomed to the Oral Water Jet and when you are troubled by gum inflammation. After cleaning, set the nozzle to position . for gum massage. Guide the water over your teeth and gums. After using the Oral Water Jet Remove the jet tip and put it in the storage compartment.
