• the 12-V cigar lighter socket of a vehicle or • into the 12-V on-board power supply socket of a vehicle. Thereby, you simply use the vehicle-adapter instead of the power adapter . Warning! Use the Rapid Battery Charger exclusively with the supplied vehicle-adapter . The use of other vehicle-adapters could irreparably damage the Rapid Battery Charger! There is also a danger of fire! To utilise the Rapid Battery Charger with the vehicle-adapter : • Should a cigar lighter be inserted into the cigar-lighter socket: - Remove the cigar lighter. - 14 Note: Also ensure that all possible soiling (e.g. remains of ash) is removed from the inside of the cigar lighter socket! Otherwise, it could lead to a malfunction in the operation of the Rapid Battery Charger with the vehicle-adapter ! • Insert the low-tension plug of the vehicle-adapter into the power adapter connection of the Rapid Battery Charger. • Insert the vehicle-adapter into the cigar-lighter sokket. The Rapid Battery Charger is now ready for use. Important: Never leave the Rapid Battery Charger resp. the batteries in the vehicle! Under strong sunlight, and with a correspondingly heated vehicle interior, the Rapid Battery Charger could over-heat and be irreparably damaged. Additionally, the batteries could overheat and explode. There is also a danger of fire! - 15 Note: It is possible that the cigar-lighter only functions with a switched-on vehicle ignition. If you are unsure, consult the vehicle handbook. Caution! For vehicles in which the cigar lighter resp. onboard power sockets also function with a switched-off vehicle ignition: Only use the Rapid Battery Charger with the engine running. Otherwise, the vehicle batteriy could be completely discharged by the use of the Rapid Battery Charger! - 16 Charging batteries Danger! Charge exclusively rapid rechargable batteries of the types "Ni-Cd“ and "Ni-MH". NEVER recharge batteries of other types or nonrechargable batteries. These are not suitable for recharging. This could irreparably damage the Rapid Battery Charger and the inserted batteries. Due to the charging current, only batteries with appropriate capacities may be charged: -Ni-MH AA min. 2300mAh / AAA min. 800mAh -Ni-Cd AA min. 800mAh / AAA min. 300mAh Should an attempt be made to charge batteries with significantly lower capacities, the batteries could be destroyed. There is also the danger of a fire as well as an explosion! - 17 • Place the selector switch into the position Ni-MH if you want to charge Ni-MH batteries. • Place the selector switch into the position Ni-Cd if you want to charge Ni-Cd batteries. • Insert the batteries into the charging slots . It is possible to charge from one to four individual batteries. Note: Ensure that the batteries are inserted into the charging slots in accordance with their polarities. Otherwise, the batteries will not be charged. • The charging process now begins. The Rapid Battery Charger has a control lamp for each cell in the charging slots . The control lamps show the charging condition of the individual batteries. - 18 The various displays have the following meanings: • The control lamp blinks fast: - Checking the inserted batteries. - Full and non-rechargable batteries are recognised. Remove the inserted batteries from the Rapid Battery Charger. • The control lamp does not glow: -The batteries have not been inserted correctly into the charging slots . - The batteries are possibly defect. -The batteries do not correspond to the type setting of the selector switch (Ni-MH, Ni-Cd). • The control lamp glows continuously: - The batteries are being charged. • The control lamp blinks slowly: - The batteries are charged and the appliance has switched to "retention charging". - 19 Warning! The batteries will become hot during charging. NEVER touch hot batteries! There is a danger of being burnt! • Remove the power adapter of the Rapid Battery Charger from the wall socket and allow the batteries to cool down. Afterwards you can remove the charged batteries from the Rapid Battery Charger. Average charging times Depending on the type, age and remaining charge in the batteries, the charging process can take various lengths of time. The average charging time can be taken from the following table. Take note however that the times given are only guiding values. - 20 Type Typ AA Capacity Ni-MH Ni-Cd 2300 mAh 85 min. --1100 mAh --95 min. Type Typ AAA Capacity Ni-MH Ni-Cd 800 mAh 75 min. --350 mAh --75 min. - 21 Troubleshooting The Rapid Battery Charger displays nofunctions With mains power operation: • Check to see if the low-tension plug on the cable of the power adapter is correctly inserted into the power adapter connection . • Check to see if the power socket into which the power adapter has been inserted is "live". To do this, connect a different, functioning electrical appliance to the socket. With operation over the vehicle-adapter: • Check to see if the vehicle-adapter is correctly connected to...
