Details are on page 33. CH3/CH4 Switch Set to channel 3 or 4 to use your TV with your VCR. Set your TV to the same chan nel. Details are on page seven. OUT Jack Use the supplied RF coaxial cable to connect this jack to the Antenna In Jack on your TV or Cable Box/DBS. Details are on pages six-nine. Playing 23 Read and follow the steps below to play a tape. Turn on the TV and set it to channel 3 or 4, whichever channel to which the CH3/CH4 switch on the back of the VCR is set. 2 Insert a tape in the VCR. The POWER, VCR/TV, and CST.IN lights will appear. If the tape’s record tab has been removed, playback will begin automatically. 3 If playback does not start automatically, press the PLAY button. 4 Press the STOP button to stop playback. 5 Press the REWIND button to rewind the tape. 6 Press the EJECT button to remove the tape. S-VHS Quasi Play Back (SQPB) This VCR has a SQPB function that allows you to view a tape recorded in S-VHS format. A tape recorded in S-VHS format will play the same as a tape recorded in normal format. This VCR detects whether the tape is recorded in S-VHS format or in normal format. 1 1 Turn on the TV. 2 2 Insert a tape. 6 3 5 4 Helpful Hints • If the tape you want to play is already in the VCR, make sure the VCR power is on and the VCR is in VCR position. (Press the VCR/TV button so that the VCR/TV light appears.) Then, press the PLAY button. • Other playback options and features are on pages 34-44. • When you play a tape recorded in S-VHS format on this unit, you can not get the high resolution that would be available on an S-VHS VCR. Noise lines (black and white streaks) may appear on the picture. • If AUTO REPEAT is set to ON, playback will begin automatically, even when the record tab is intact. 24 Recording Read and follow the steps below to record a television program. 1 Turn on the TV; set it to channel 3 or 4, whichever channel the CH3/CH4 switch on the back of the VCR is set to. 2 Insert a tape with its record tab intact (see page five) in the VCR. The POWER, VCR/TV, and CST.IN lights will appear. 3 If the VCR/TV light does not appear, press the VCR/TV button so that the VCR/TV light appears. 4 Press the SPEED button until the desired tape speed (SP or SLP) appears on the screen. The tape speed will disappear after about five seconds. You can change the tape speed while the VCR is recording, but some distortion may appear on the tape. Details about tape speed are on page 45. 5 Use the CHANNEL o/p buttons or the Number buttons to select the channel to be recorded. 6 Press the RECORD button once to start recording. The REC(ord) light will appear. If the tape is missing the record tab, the VCR will eject the tape. 7 To pause the recording (for example, during commercials), press the PAUSE/STILL button once. The REC(ord) light will flash. To resume recording, press the RECORD button or the PAUSE/STILL button again. The REC(ord) light will appear. 8 Press the STOP button to stop recording. 1 1 Turn on the TV. 2 2 Insert a tape. 3 5 4 7 6 8 Helpful Hints • Other recording options are on pages 25-33. • The VCR will record in a preset volume. • Pause mode will automatically switch to Stop mode after five minutes to protect the VCR and the tape from damage. When a recording is paused, you may review the pause time remaining with the n marks on the screen. Each n mark equals one minute remaining. During the last minute of paused recording, the n mark will flash. • If any menu is activated on the TV screen, the RECORD button on the remote control does not function. Press the COUNTER RESET/EXIT button to remove the menu. Then, press the RECORD button.
