Configuration Changes
If you are installing an Interface Manager card into an existing library
configuration, the Interface Manager card will make substantial configuration
changes. To ensure the proper operation of the library, verify the following and
reconfigure as required:
• Mappings—The Interface Manager card reconfigures host and device
mappings on the ESL library. You may need to reconfigure library information in
the backup software to reflect these changes. This may also impact other
scheduled events in the backup software. Refer to the backup software
documentation for more information.
• Scheduled backups—If you have backups scheduled, you may need to
reconfigure the backup jobs to reflect hardware changes. Refer to the backup
software documentation for more information.
• Host access to tape drives—The Interface Manager card controls host
access to tape drives in the library through the use of HP StorageWorks Secure
Manager. After installing the Interface Manager card, no hosts can access the
library until you configure Secure Manager (host access). Before installing the
Interface Manager card, record al of the current host access set ings so that
you can easily configure Secure Manager. See Chapter 4, “Advanced
Features,” of the HP StorageWorks Interface Manager and Command View TL
User Guide for information on configuring Secure Manager.
• Logical devices—Paths to devices may change upon installation of the
Interface Manager card. If a path changes, UNIX users need to create new
device files (such as files in /dev/rmt), and then modify any backup scripts
(such as tar and dd scripts) or applications that reference those device files.
