USE ACCESSORIES RATED AT TOOL RPM OR HIGHER Always use grinding wheels with an RPM rating that meets or exceeds the tool RPM rating. Always examine wheels for chips, cracks or signs of damage before mounting. Never use grinding wheels that have been dropped or exposed to: water, solvent or extreme temperature changes. The grinder’s speed should be checked with a tachometer before mounting a wheel; after all repairs and whenever the grinder is issued for use. 1/4-Inch Right Angle Grinder Operator's Manual Installation Designed to operate on 90 PSIG, lower pressure (below 90 PSIG) will reduce performance of the tool while higher air pressure (over 90 PSIG) raises the performance of the tool beyond its rated capacity and could cause serious damage to tool and user. Always use clean dry air. Excessive moisture and dirt will greatly reduce the life of any air motor. We recommend the installation of an in-line filter-regulator-lubricator as close to the tool as possible. A 3/8" air hose is required up to a length of 8 ft. If more length is required a 1/2" air hose should be connected to the 3/8" hose to ensure the tool has the necessary air supply. Be sure all hoses and fittings are the correct size and tightly secured. RECOMMENDED AIR LINE SET-UP 1/4-Inch Right Angle Grinder Operator's Manual Operation PRE-OPERATION: Before the tool is connected to the air supply, clear the air hose of accumulated dustand moisture. Before removing a tool for service or changing accessories, make surethe air line is shut-off and drained of air. This will prevent the tool from operating if thethrottle is accidentally engaged. OPERATION: Designed for use with mounted stones and burrs with a 1/4" mandrel rated at 25,000RPM or higher. This tool has a lock-off lever throttle and an internal regulator. Tobegin operation, grip tool and depress safety lock while engaging throttle. The built-inregulator is located opposite the throttle lever, and will rotate fully and allows speedadjustment of the tool. To mount stones and other accessories, use the wrenches supplied with the tool. Always disconnect air supply before changing any accessories. Hold spindle with onewrench (11mm), while using the other wrench (19mm) to turn collet nut. Fully insertmandrel into chuck and tighten until secured in collet. Daily, before use, with no accessory, check spindle speed. Tighten spindle attachments securely. The grinder should be gradually applied to the work surface until thestone or burr becomes warm. Make smooth contact with the work and avoid anybumping action or excessive force. CAUTION: ONLY USE MOUNTED GRINDING STONES OR BURRS RATED AT TOOL RPM OR HIGHER. NEVER OPERATE TOOL WITHOUT WEARING PROPER PROTECTIVE GEAR. Maintenance LUBRICATION: An automatic in-line filter-regulator-lubricator is recommended as it increases tool lifeand keeps the tool in sustained operation. The in-line lubricator should be regularlychecked and filled with John Deere AT-4003 air tool oil. Proper adjustment of the in-linelubricator is performed by placing a sheet of paper next to the exhaust ports andholding the throttle open approximately 30 seconds. The lubricator is properly set whena light stain of oil collects on the paper. Excessive amounts of oil should be avoided. In the event that it becomes necessary to store the tool for an extended period of time(overnight, weekend, etc.), it should receive a generous amount of lubrication at thattime. The tool should be run for approximately 30 seconds to ensure oil has beenevenly distributed throughout the tool. The tool should be stored in a clean and dryenvironment. Recommended lubricants: Use John Deere AT-4003 air tool oil or any other highgrade turbine oil containing moisture absorbent, rust inhibitors, metal wetting agentsand an EP (extreme pressure) additive. NOTE: The right angle gear assembly needs to be lubricated with an all purposegrease such as John Deere AT-4003. The fill plug is located on the side ofthe angle head assembly. Overfilling will slow down tool and also result ingrease leakage around the head. 1/4-Inch Right Angle Grinder Operator's Manual Troubleshooting Troubleshooting Problem Solution Loss of Power 1. Low air pressure 2. Improper lubrication or dirt build up 3. Worn motor parts, or other problems 1. Check air supply. For rated performance, 90 PSI air pressure is required at the tool, with tool operating 2. Check for wet or dirty air. Wet air tends to wash lubricant away. Dirt or foreign matter will impede the action of the motor. If dirt or water has entered the tool, flush with John Deere AT4003. 3. Contact your customer service.
