If the station you want to store is weak in signal strength, tune into it manually and store it by following the procedure in “Manually presetting stations”. • If no station is received using the automatic preset tuning method, “NOTHING” is displayed in the front panel display for about 3 seconds and the search ends. 1 Press FM/AM (FM/MW/LW for U.K. and Europe models) to select the FM band. “FM” appears in the front panel display. FM/AM 2 Press and hold MEMORY (MAN’L/AUTO FM) for more than 3 seconds. The preset group and MEMO and AUTO indicators flash. Automatic presetting starts from the frequency currently displayed and proceeds toward the higher frequencies. MEMORY ♦ When automatic preset tuning is complete, the front panel display shows the frequency of the last preset station. 12 TUNING ■ Manually presetting stations You can also store up to 40 stations (8 stations x 5 groups) manually. I - î h J 2 1 Tune into a station. See page 11 for tuning instructions. When tuned into a station, the front panel display shows the frequency of the station received. 2 Press A/B/C/D/E repeatedly to select a preset station group (A to E) in the front panel display. The station group is displayed in the front panel display. Press the preset station number button (1 to 8) you want to store while the MEMO indicator is flashing. ♦ Shows the displayed station has been stored as A1. 5 Repeat steps 1 to 4 to store other stations. Notes Any stored station data existing under a preset number is cleared when you store a new station under that preset number. The reception mode (stereo or monaural) is stored along with the station frequency. 4 L A/B/C/D/E 3 Press MEMORY (MAN’L/AUTO FM). The station group is displayed in the front panel display. A/B/C/D/E 2 Press a preset station number button to select the preset station number (1 to 8). Note In some cases, you may not be able to select a preset station that could be received using the automatic tuning method. This is due to the large volume of Program Identification (PI) data received along with the station. Exchanging preset stations You can exchange the assignment of two preset stations with each other. The example below describes the procedure for exchanging preset station “E1” with “A5”. 2,4 1 Select preset station “E1 ”. The stations stored at the two preset assignments are exchanged. * — E RS Shows the exchange of stations is complete. Receiving Radio Data System stations Radio Data System is a data transmission system used by FM stations in many countries. The Radio Data System function is carried out among the network stations. This unit can receive various Radio Data System data such as PI (Program Identification), PS (Program Service name), PTY (Program Type), RT (Radio Text), CT (Clock Time), EON (Enhanced Other Networks) when receiving Radio Data System broadcasting stations. ■ PS (Program Service name) mode Displays the name of the station being received. If the station does not employ the PS data service, this mode will not be selected. ■ PTY (Program Type) mode Displays the type of the program being broadcast on the station being received. If the station does not employ the PTY data service, this mode will not be selected. (To search for a station which is broadcasting the type of program you want to listen to, see “PTY SEEK function” on page 17.) There are 15 program types to classify Radio Data System stations.
