This system, utilizes an approved 3-conductor power cord and 3-prong grounding type attachment plug, which should be used with the proper grounding type receptacle, in accordance with the National Electric Code, Canadian Electrical Code, and Underwriters’ Laboratories specifications. If your unit requires less than 150 volts It has a plug that looks like Fig, “A”. It will fit directly into the proper type of 3-wire grounding receptacle. The unit is then grounded automatically each time it is plugged in. Shown in Fig, “B” is a special grounding adapter (not allowed in Canada by the Canadian Electrical Code) which is available from your dealer and will permit using a 2-wire receptacle. The green grounding wire extending from the side of the adapter must be connected to a Permanent Ground. If the unit requires from 150 to 250' volts, it has a plug like Fig, "C”. No adapter is available and the plug must be used in the proper 3-wire grounding receptacle. We recommend that you NEVER disassemble the tool or try to do any rewiring in the electrical system. Any such repairs should be performed only by B&D Service Centers or other qualified service organizations. Should you be determined to make a repair yourself, remember that the green colored wire is the “grounding” wire. Never connect this green wire to a “live” terminal. If you replace the plug on the power cord, be sure to connect the green wire only to the grounding (longest) prong on a 3-prong plug. Many different accessories can expand its usage to practically any type of vacuum cleaning. Since this cleaner is intended for dry pick-up only, do not use it in wet areas or for picking up wet materials. The 5-inch nozzle and 2l/z" diameter hose (standard equipment with cleaner) are ideal for pick-up of items such as sand, dirt and pebbles. You can increase this cleaning versatility by adding 2l/z" accessories like the 14" floor nozzle, crevice tool and round brush. The Size-Reducer also enables you to use standard 1%" diameter accessories which you may already own Here the 5" nozzle, 9" oval nozzle and round brush are useful cleaning aids. All accessories are made of durable plastic and are low in cost. SWITCH To start the vacuum cleaner, push the toggle switch lever, “G” Figure 3, to the "ON” position. To stop the cleaner, push the switch lever to the “OFF” position. TO USE AS A BLOWER If you want to use the machine to blow air, simply connect the hose to the exhaust outlet, <4F” Figure 3. EMPTYING AND CLEANING (Figure 4) ' Release spring clamps (“E”, Figure 1) on drum and lift motor head from drum. Place it on its side. Empty collected materials from drum. The efficiency of the vacuum cleaner is completely dependent on the air filter bag; it should be kept clean and handled carefully. The bag “I" is held on the bag stretcher "H” by elastic. Remove bag and clean by brushing dust from its surface; don't strike bag against hard or sharp surface as it may damage the cloth. Don't wash bag as its best filtering qualities are retained by air cleaning only. Inspect bag periodically for signs of abrasion, cuts or tears. Replace bag if damaged with No, U-1470 Bag available from i&D Service Center, Failure to do so may result in- damage to the motor. When replacing bag make sure elastic is securely fitted around bag stretcher. Accessory paper bags (No. U-1469) are available to be placed over cloth bag for quick, convenient replacement. Merely throw away the old paper bag and slip a new, clean one over the cloth bag. When using paper bags, make sure that bag is not clogged and is changed regularly. When reassembling motor and tank, make sure that lid is properly seated and that clamps are closed securely.
