Ensure that the video you want to capture is in the device. 2 Open Adaptec AV Capture. Previewing Your Video You can use AV Capture to play your video on your computer monitor. You can use this feature to preview your video before you start a capture, monitor the video as it’s being captured, or take snapshots from your video. (See Taking a Snapshot on page 27 for more information.) To play your video using AV Capture: 1 Open the Capture menu. The Preview menu item specifies whether or not the Preview feature is activated. Preview has two settings: on and off. A checkmark appears beside Preview when the feature is on (as shown in the example below). 2 If the Preview feature is off, select Preview to turn it on. 3 Start your video tape. Note: With Preview turned on, while you’re capturing video you can view the picture on AV Capture but the sound is muted. See Capturing Video on page 26 for more information. Caution: To ensure that your videos are captured successfully, unplug any extraneous USB devices you may have connected to your computer and close all other applications before you begin to capture video. To capture a video: 1 In the File menu, select Set Capture File/Pathname. 2 Select the folder you want to save your video to, specify a file name, then click OK. 3 Start your video tape, and check that your computer is receiving good input. 4 In the Capture menu, select Start Capture. A message appears, asking you if you wish to overwrite the selected file. 5 Click Yes. Your video is transferred to your computer. Note: With Preview turned on, while you’re capturing video you can view the picture on AV Capture but the sound is muted. (See page 25 for information about the Preview feature.) Once the capture is complete, the video plays back with both picture and sound (unless you have chosen not to capture the audio portion of your analog video — see Changing the Audio Capture Setting on page 29 for audio capture information). Using Adaptec AV Capture Stopping Video Capture You can stop a video capture at any time during the capture process. When you stop a capture, the video transferred up until that point will be saved to the file. Note: The AV Capture software doesn’t control your analog video device. When you stop a capture, your video tape will continue to play unless you stop it using the device’s onboard controls. To stop a video capture: 1 In the File menu, select Stop Capture. (The video captured until the stop point will be saved.) 2 Press the Stop or Pause button on your analog video device. Restarting a Video Capture After a Stop Capture To restart a capture: 1 Rewind your video tape to the beginning of your chosen clip.
