Chapter 2. Using your computer 21 Enabling or disabling the wireless features • Fn+F5 Enable or disable the built-in wireless networking features. Note: To use this function, the following device drivers must be installed on your computer beforehand: – Power Management driver – OnScreen Display Utility – Wireless device drivers You can download these drivers from Changing the camera and audio settings • Fn+F6 – For Windows 7: Open the Communications Utility settings window, in which you can preview your video image, take a snapshot of your current image, and change the camera and audio settings. – For Windows 8: Start the Lenovo Settings program. To use the camera or change the camera settings, click Camera. To adjust the audio settings, click Audio. Adjusting the brightness level of the computer display • Fn+F8: The computer display becomes dimmer. • Fn+F9: The computer display becomes brighter. This function changes the brightness level temporarily. To change the default brightness level, change the settings through the Power Manager program. Multimedia controls • Fn+F10: Previous track/scene • Fn+F11: Play or pause • Fn+F12: Next track/scene Other functions • Fn+Spacebar: Control the keyboard backlight and the ThinkLight light. – Press once: Turn on the keyboard backlight in the low brightness level. – Press again: Adjust the keyboard backlight to the high brightness level. – Press the third time: Turn off the keyboard backlight and turn on the ThinkLight light. – Press the fourth time: Turn off the ThinkLight light. Note: If your computer does not have a backlit keyboard, the Fn+Spacebar combination controls only the ThinkLight light. To change the functionality of this combination, see “Config menu” on page 116. • Fn+F3: Lock your computer. • Fn+B: Has the same function as the Break key. • Fn+P: Has the same function as the Pause key. • Fn+S: Has the same function as the SysRq key. • Fn+K: Has the same function as the ScrLK key. 22 User Guide Volume and mute buttons Adjust the sound volume level of the built-in speakers by using the following three buttons: 123 Speaker mute button Volume control button Microphone mute button If you mute the sound and then turn off your computer, the sound will remain muted when you turn on your computer again. To turn on the sound, press the speaker mute button again or press the volume control button. Setting the volume To adjust the output volume or the recording volume, do the following: 1. Go to Control Panel and click Hardware and Sound . Sound. The Sound window opens. 2. Click the Playback tab or Recording tab, and then click a device that you want to customize. 3. Click the Properties button. 4. Click the Levels tab, and then change the volume by moving the slider. You also can get access to the desktop volume control by using the volume icon on the taskbar at the lower right of the screen. For details about controlling volume, refer to your Windows help information system. Setting the microphone mute button By default, when you press the microphone mute button, all of the recording devices are muted or unmuted. If you want to control only one of the recording devices using the microphone mute button, do the following: 1. Press Fn+F6. The Communications Utility settings window opens. 2. Click the Manage Settings button. The Communications Utility window opens. 3. On the VoIP Call Settings tab, click Microphone mute button settings. The Setting for Microphone Mute window opens. 4. Select Only the recording device selected below:. Then select the recording device from the drop-down list box. 5. Click OK. Chapter 2. Using your computer 23 Windows key Windows key On the Windows 7 operating system, press the Windows key to open the Start menu. On the Windows 8 operating system, press the Windows key to switch between the current workspace and the Start screen. You also can use the Windows key together with another key to achieve other functions. For details, refer to the help information system of the Windows operating system. Using the UltraNav pointing device Your computer may come with the UltraNav pointing device. The UltraNav pointing device consists of the TrackPoint pointing device and the touch pad, each of which is itself a pointing device with both basic and extended functions. You can configure both devices by choosing the settings you prefer. • Set both the TrackPoint pointing device and the touch pad as pointing devices. This setting enables the use of all the basic and extended functions of the TrackPoint pointing device and the touch pad. • Set the TrackPoint pointing device as the main pointing device and the touch pad for extended functions only. This setting enables the use of all basic and extended functions with the TrackPoint pointing device while limiting the use of the touch pad to scrolling, tap zones, or slow-motion cursor functions. • Set the TrackPoint pointing device as the main pointing device, and d...
