1. Follow the procedures in Before You Begin. 2. Remove the battery (see Removing the Battery). 3. Turn the computer upside-down and remove the one M2.5x5-mm screw and nine M2.5x8-mm screws. 4. Insert a plastic scribe into the notch on the component cover, and lift to remove the cover. 5. Ground yourself by touching one of the metal connectors on the back of the computer. Removing a WLAN Card CAUTION: Before you begin any of the procedures in this section, follow the safety instructions located in the Product Information Guide. NOTICE: To prevent damage to the system board, remove the battery before you service the computer. 1 M2.5x8-mm component cover screws (9) 2 M2.5x5-mm screw 3 component cover NOTE: If you leave the area, ground yourself again when you return to the computer. NOTE: Depending on the type of card, not all cables may be in use. 1. Disconnect the cables from the card. 2. Remove the screws. 3. Slide the card at a 45-degree angle out of its connector. Replacing a WLAN Card 1. Move any cables out of the way to make space for the WLAN card. 2. Align the card with the connector at a 45-degree angle, and press the card into the connector until it clicks. 3. Connect the cables to the WLAN card. 4. Replace the screws on the WLAN card. 5. Replace the cover. 1 WLAN card 2 screws (2) 3 antenna cables (2) 1 WLAN card NOTICE: The connectors are keyed to ensure correct insertion. If you feel resistance, check the connectors and realign the card. NOTICE: To avoid damaging a card, never place cables on top of or under the card. NOTE: The card may have two or three connectors, depending on the type of card you ordered. NOTE: For more specific information about which cable to connect to which connector, see the documentation that came with your Mini Card. 6. Replace the battery (see Replacing the Battery). Removing a Flash Cache Memory Card 1. Ground yourself by touching one of the metal connectors on the back of the computer. 2. Disconnect the cables from the flash cache memory (FCM) card. 3. Remove the screws. 4. Slide the card at a 45-degree angle out of its connector. Replacing a Flash Cache Memory Card 1. Move any cables out of the way to make space for the FCM card. 2. Align the card with the connector at a 45-degree angle, and press the card into the connector until it clicks. 3. Replace the screws on the FCM card. 4. Connect the cables to the FCM card. 5. Remove the battery (see Removing the Battery). 3. Remove the optical drive (see Removing the Optical Drive). 4. Remove the hard drive (see Removing the Hard Drive). 5. Remove the fan (see Removing the Fan). 6. Disconnect the Mini Card cable (see Removing a WLAN Card). 7. Remove the hinge cover (see Removing the Hinge Cover). 8. Remove the keyboard (see Removing the Keyboard). 9. Remove the display assembly (see Removing the Display Assembly). 10. Remove the palm rest (see Removing the Palm Rest). 11. Remove the remaining M2.5x5-mm screw from the system board. 12. Pull out slightly on the back right side of the computer to release the connectors on the system board from the base. 13. Lift the front of the system board and slowly ease the connectors out of the computer base and remove the system board. 14. Place the system board upside down on a clean, flat surface. 15. Using a #1 Phillips type screwdriver, remove the two M2x3-mm screws on the modem. 16. Disconnect the modem cable. 17. Remove the modem from the system. CAUTION: Before you begin the following procedure, follow the safety instructions in the Product Information Guide. NOTICE: To avoid electrostatic discharge, ground yourself by using a wrist grounding strap or by periodically touching an unpainted metal surface (such as the back panel) on the computer. NOTE: It is not required but is highly recommended that you remove the fan. Replacing the Modem 1. Connect the modem cable to the modem. 2. Align the connector on the bottom of the modem with the modem connector on the system board, and press down on the right side of the modem. 3. Replace the M2x3-mm screw. 4.
