10 Carefully remove the new memory module from its antistatic packaging, without touching its connector. 42 42 11 Locate the empty memory module slot on the underside of the computer. 12 Pick up the memory module by its sides, avoiding any contact with its connector. Position the module toward the socket, aligning the connector’s notch with the matching key in the socket. latch latch key notch connector (Sample Illustration) Aligning the memory module with the socket 13 Firmly press the memory module into the memory slot’s socket at approximately a 30-degree angle (to the horizontal surface of the computer). These latches should “snap” into place securely with the corresponding cutouts in the side of the module. In this condition, observe the following: . Never cover your computer or AC adaptor with any object. . Never place your computer or AC adaptor near a heat source, such as an electric blanket or heater. . Never cover or block the air vents including those located at the base of the computer. . Always operate your computer on a hard flat surface. Using your computer on a carpet or other soft material can block the vents located at the base of the computer. Overheating your computer or AC adaptor could cause system failure, computer or AC adaptor damage or a fire, possibly resulting in serious injury. 18 Reconnect the cables. 19 Restart the computer. TECHNICAL NOTE: You must have at least one memory module installed for the computer to work. You can now continue setting up the computer.
