To make the best use of the unit, please read the instructions carefully. -Despite its compact size, this effect unit is capable of storing separate settings for backing as well as solo setups. This is possible thanks to the fact that it is equipped with two completely independent overdrive circuits. -A natural-sounding overdrive continues to be produced without any loss in its quality, even if you turn down the volume on your guitar. -You can simultaneously switch between Crunch/Lead and turn ON/OFF the effect after connecting an optionally available foot switch (such as the FS-5L) to the Remote jack. -A two-color LED makes it easy to tell at a glance whether Crunch or Lead is selected. DUAL OverDrive <- OUTPUT INPUT <- REMOTE 4" DUAL OverDrive SD-2 PANEL DESCRIPTION 4- OUTPUT INPUT ^ REMOTE f DUAL OverDrive SD-2 1 AC Adaptor Jack Connect an AC adaptor ( BOSS PSA-1 20, 220 or 240 depending on the line voltage system in your country ) to this jack. * An AC adaptor allows long and secure operation without worrying about battery life. * Be sure to use a BOSS PSA-120, 220 or 240 adaptor.Use of any other adaptor may damage the device. 2 Check Indicator Lights up when the effect is ON, allowing you to confirm whether the effect is ON or OFF, and to check which mode you are in. * When Crunch is on, the indicator lights in GREEN; when Lead is on it will be RED. * This indicator also serves as the Battery Check indicator. You will know when the battery has worn down and needs to be replaced whenever this indicator goes dim or no longer lights. 3 Effect Level Knob (Crunch) 4 Effect Level Knob (Lead) Used to adjust the volume level of the sound while the effect is applied. Should be adjusted so there is no noticeable difference between the times when the etfect is applied and when the sound is normal. * With this knob turned all the way to the left, no sound will be output. 5 Tone Knob (Crunch) 6 Tone Knob (Lead) Allow the tone to be adjusted. When turned the way to the right (I * ), the higher frequenc y portions will be more pronounced. To cut the higher frequency portions, turn it the way to the left ( » •). 7 Output Jack The output from this jack can be connected to your amp or to another effects device. 8 Pedal Switch Used to switch effects ON or OFF. It functions differently depending on the mode, as follows: CRUNCH/LEAD •«•«««• The pedal acts as a toggle, switching you to either CRUNCH or LEAD each time it is stepped on. LEAD«"**"“"“"«««" The pedal switches LEAD either ON or OFF each ■CONNECTIONS Amplilier ^CTonnecljhe^AC^Adajjt^ f-OUTPUT INPUT f REMOTE 4- DUAL OverDrive SD-2 AC Adaptor: BOSS PSA-120, 220 or 240 (option) * Inserting a plug into the Input )ack will automatically switch the unit on. * Before connecting or disconnecting a plug, make sure that the volume of the amplifier is turned down. The distortion depth is increased (and sustains will be lengthened) as you move the knob to the right (> '). * Oscillation could be produced if the depth is increased too much. 12 Mode Knob Allows you to select the function you wish your SD-2 to perform. CRUNCH (REMOTE)«~Provides a sound with a full-bodied distortion that is neat and well-controlled. Ideal for backing. LEAD ............ '••••••••Puts out a really stubborn sustained sound, and sounds as if it were coming from an oversized amp. CRUNCH/LEAD••••.....Hie pedal switches you to either CRUNCH or LEAD each time it is stepped on. 13 Input Jack Here is where you need to connect your guitar, or other electric/electronic instrument. * The Input lack is equipped with a power switch. Whenever you insert a plug into it, the power is turned ON. Pull the plug out, and the power goes OFF. For this reason, try to make a habit of pulling out the cord going to the Input Jack whenever the pedal is not being used. 14 Remote Jack Accepts connection of an optionally available foot switch (FS-5L or the like) which you can then depress to switch between Crunch/Lead. * When wishing to use a foot switch to switch between Crunch/Lead, make sure to set the Mode switch to CRUNCH (REMOTE). OPERATION The inner rings of the control knobs (Drive, Tone, and Level) control Crunch, whereas the outer rings affect Lead. When in the Crunch mode all settings are made using the inner rings.
