G Pilot light “Charging” H Brush I Charging stand, with cord J Storage opening for brush English Francais Charging • Charge (and use) the appliance at temperatures between +15 °C and +35 °C (+60 °F and +95 °F respectively). • Types HQ T364 and HQ T368 come in two versions: with NiMH battery and with NiCd battery . Please check the symbol on the typeplate of the appliance first. - The battery will be fully charged in approximately 12 h (NiMH version) and 10 h (NiCd version). - A full charge provides you with an average of 60 minutes (NiMh version) and 40 minutes (NiCd version) of use. The appliance only gets charged if you: 1. put the On/Off switch in the ‘Off’ position (fig. 2). 2. store the trimmer in the charging stand (fig. 3). 3. plug the cord to a wall socket (fig. 4). During charging, the pilot light “Charging” will be on (fig. 5). Note: • The charging stand can also be used to store the trimmer. • In order to guarantee the longest possible working life of the battery: - do not charge for more than 24 hours. - do not keep the charging stand permanently plugged in. - a weaker motor sound indicates that the rechargeable battery will be empty soon. Only plug in the charging stand when you hear this weaker sound. - discharge the battery completely once a year by letting the motor run until it stops. • If the battery is empty and you want to trim your beard, charge it for at least for 1.5 h to have enough power for one trim. • If you haven’t used the appliance for a long period, charge it before use. How to use the trimmer Before trimming, always comb your beard and/or moustache, using a fine comb. • Beard trimming: with comb attachment - Initially use the position for maximum beard length: set the comb attachment to position 9, by turning the “zoom ring” (fig. 6). - For most effective cutting, move the trimmer against the direction of beard growth (fig. 7). - Choose the required beard length (fig. 8). There are 9 positions: Position Resulting beard setting of zoom ring length (in mm.) 9 18.0 8 15.0 7 12.0 6 9.5 5 7.5 4 5.5 3 4.0 2 2.5 1 1.5 • Trimming the unique ‘Stubble look’ Your appliance comes equipped with a unique comb that has a small slot between the two rows of teeth (see fig. 9). This enables you to cut the hairs of the beard to a length of only 1.5 mm. The result is a very short stubble beard. To obtain the shortest possible look, the trimmer can be used without the comb in order to reach a stubble length of 0.8 mm. • Clipping single hairs, trimming and shaping of full beards: without comb attachment - Pull the comb from the appliance (fig. 10). - Make well-controlled movements. Touch the hair lightly with the trimmer (fig. 11). • Moustache trimming and clipping of single hairs Precision trimmer (HQ T368 only!) - Push the precision trimmer upwards and it will start working immediately if the appliance is switched on (fig. 12, 13). The precision trimmer is also suitable for straightening the edges of the beard in the neck and on the cheeks. Please note: the main cutting unit continues working as well. Cleaning - Always switch off the appliance before cleaning. • During use: - If much hair has accumulated in the comb area, pull off the comb attachment (fig. 10) and remove the hairs by shaking and/or blowing (fig. 14). The current beard length setting will be maintained. • After each trim: - Pull the comb from the appliance (fig. 10). - Pull the cutting unit backwards (fig. 15). - Clean with the brush (fig. 16, 17). Replacing the cutting unit If th cutting unit is damaged or worn, a new unit can be bought from the Philips Service Centre. Replace the cutting unit as follows: - Remove the old cutting unit by first pulling it backwards (fig. 15) and then upwards. - Place the two notches of the new cutting unit into the guide slots (fig. 18). - Push the cutting unit down (‘Click’!) (fig. 19). Protecting the environment The built-in rechargeable battery contains substances which may pollute the environment. When you eventually discard this appliance, remove the rechargeable battery and hand it in separately at an officially assigned collection point. Note: You can also take the appliance to a Philips Service Centre. The staff will be happy to help you. How to remove the built-in rechargeable battery - Undo the screw of the base plate on the rear side of the appliance (fig. 20). - Pull the rechargeable battery holder approx. 4 cm out of the appliance. - Insert a screwdriver into the small slot in the printed-circuit board, which is marked with an arrow (fig. 21). - Push screwdriver down untill part of the printed-circuit breaks off. - Gr...
