The settings correspond to the remaining hair length after cutting (Fig. 6). -The small comb cuts the hair to a length of 3mm, 6mm, 9mm, 12mm, 15mm, 18mm or 21mm. -The large comb cuts the hair to a length of 24mm, 27mm, 30mm, 33mm, 36mm, 39mm or 42mm. 5 6 Switch on the appliance (Fig. 7). Move the appliance through the hair slowly. Note: Make sure that the flat part of the comb is fully in contact with the scalp to obtain an even cutting result. Tips: -Star t clipping at the highest hair length setting of the comb and reduce the hair length setting gradually. -Write down the hair length settings you use to create a cer tain hairstyle as a reminder for future clipping sessions. -To clip most effectively, move the appliance against the hair growth direction. -Tr y different directions (upward, downward or across), because hair doesn’t all grow in the same direction. -Make overlapping passes over the head to ensure that the appliance catches all the hairs that need to be cut. -Make sure that the flat par t of the comb is fully in contact with the scalp to obtain an even cutting result. -To achieve a good result with curly, sparse or long hair, you can use the styling comb to guide the hair towards the appliance. -Regularly remove cut hair from the comb. Clipping without comb You can use the clipper without comb to contour the neckline and the area around the ears. Never pull at the flexible top of the comb. Always pull at the bottom part. 2 3 4 5 6 Before you start to contour the hairline round the ears, comb the hair ends over the ears. Tilt the appliance in such a way that only one edge of the cutting element touches the hair ends. Only cut the hair ends. The hairline has to be close to the ear. To contour the neckline and sideburns, turn the appliance and make downward strokes. Move the appliance slowly and smoothly. Follow the natural hairline. graduation The Philips hair clipper not only allows you to cut the hair evenly at the same length all over the head, it also enables you to achieve a smooth transition from longer hair on top of the head to shor ter hair on the back and sides of the head. 1 2 3 4 Slide the large comb into the guiding grooves of the appliance (‘click’) (Fig. 4). Start clipping at the setting for maximum hair length (42mm). Then choose a shorter setting and cut the hair on all parts of the head, except for the top, where you want the hair to be longer.
