The installation of the 8" hatch is shown here, but the same instructions apply for the 6" hatch. 1. Remove your old-style hatches from your boat. Be sure to keep the screws because you will be reusing them to install the new hatch. Once the hatch is removed, clean any debris off the kayak surface that may have accumulated over time (sand and small rocks). You will be using the new backing ring that comes with the new hatch, so take the old ring out of the boat and put it aside. 2. Insert the new backing ring into the hull. You will need to twist the ring to get it into the hull. 3. Place a gasket on the backside of the hatch and place on the boat. You will want to make sure that the hatch is aligned in the proper position because it only opens in one direction. We recommend that if you are installing a hatch in front of the seat that it opens to the front. If you install the hatch behind the seat it should open to the back. For the 6" hatches, you may be able to align the hatch with the existing holes that were previously drilled. 4. Once you have the hatch in the position you want, use the outer holes as a drill guide to drill 3/16" holes. As mentioned above, you may not need to drill any holes for the 6" hatch if it is located the way you want it. 5. Press the attachment screws through the top of the hatch and into the hull. Grab the backing ring that you put into the hull and align the holes in the ring to the screws. You will want to start to thread each screw into the backing ring before tightening it down all the way. Make sure that the screw is entering the side of the ring that is flat....not the side with the little cylinders of plastic. 6. Make sure that the screws are tight and you are ready to go....
