DO NOT CONTINUE to use under these conditions. Repeat the charging procedure. 7. If stored without the charger plugged in the batteries may slowly self discharge. Normal charging will make the jig saw ready for use. 8. After prolonged storage or repetitive use the batteries may appear to have reduced capacity. If this occurs adopt the following procedure: a) charge batteries normally b) fully discharge the batteries (best done by using the jig saw until it no longer cuts easily and then hold the jig saw in mid air with the switch on until the motor stops). c) charge for 24 hours - the batteries should now have full capacity. 9. The approximate charging time for the Cordless Jig Saw is 3 hours. ...... -! Attaching the Saw Blade (Figure 3) Do not hold the jig saw by the switch when attaching blades. To achieve a greater variety of applications this saw has a right angle blade clamp. This allows the teeth to face left or right from the normal direction. To attach this alternative clamp, first remove the standard clamp by removing the two screws marked (A) and then attach the right-angle clamp (J) ensuring that the identification rib is pointing towards the top of the unit. The blade can now be inserted into its location and the clamp fully tightened. NOTE: When using this alternative clamp, the blade support roller must be adjusted away from the blade. Loosen the slot headed screw on the side of the saw (C) (Figure 4), adjust the roller back as far as it will go and retighten the screw. Blade Support Roller (Figure 4) To provide greater blade support this saw is also fitted with a blade support roller. This improves the cutting performance when the saw is used on tougher materials. Each time the saw blade is changed, the blade support roller must be adjusted up to rear of the blade. To do this loosen the slot headed screw on the side of the saw (C) (Figure 4) and adjust the blade support roller so that it LIGHTLY touches the back of the saw blade with the tool running at no load. Retighten the screw. NOTE: When using a scrolling blade, adjust the Support Roller back (away from the blade) as far as possible. Switch Operation (Figure 5) To operate the tool. Firs*, press-m the lock off button (Figure 5), and then pull up the on/off switch. Ore th<: on/off switch is released, the unit will cease to operate. Adjusting the Shoe (Figure 6) CUTTING ANGLE The jig saw shoe can be angled relative to the body of the unit from 0°-45° on either side. To achieve this, raise the chip shield, loosen both screws marked B in Figure 6 and tilt the saw to the required angle relative to the shoe. The edge of the motor housing is the line for the required angle. Tighten both screws marked B to secure the shoe at that angle. Although the set scale on the shoe is accurate for most purposes it is advisable, for very accurate angle cutting to check the angle of cut with a protractor. For flush cutting the shoe should be locked in the 0° position by moving it backwards and tightening both screws marked B. To reset the shoe for a square cut, slacken the clamp screws and move the shoe until it is approximately 90° to the blade, and then, while applying slight forward pressure on the shoe, retighten the clamp screws. SPLINTER CONTROL When sawing brittle or thin pieces of wood, splintering can be reduced by moving the shoe to support the wood at the point of cut. To achieve this, loosen both screws marked B in Figure 6 and move the shoe as far back as it will go. Tighten both screws marked B to secure the shoe. CHIP SHIELD (Figure 7 and 8) As an added feature, your cordless Jig Saw is fitted with a chip shield. To operate the shield, simply press on the front surface and slide it up (Figure 7) or down (Figure 8) as far as it will go. NOTE: When cutting at an angle, always keep the chip shield in the *up’ position. Operation POCKET CUTTING (Figure 9) The saw blade can be inserted directly into a wood surface without first drilling a pilot hole (Figure 9) thus eliminating a drilling operation. First measure and clearly mark the surface to be cut. Then tip the saw forward so that the rounded tips of the shoe rest on the work surface, but with the blade well clear of it. Switch the saw ON and move it in its ‘tilted-up’ position until the moving blade is exactly over the chosen point of entry. Lower the rear of the shoe toward the work maintaining a firm pivoting pressure on the shoe tips with the blade exactly on the line. DO NOT MOVE THE SAW FORWARD ALONG ITS CUT until the saw blade has completely entered the material and the shoe comes to rest flat on its surface. ft METAL AND LAMINATED CUTTING (Figure 10} The cordless saw can be used for cutting light gauge metals such as copper, brass aluminum etc. It is advisable when cutting thin sheet metal to clamp a backing sheet of soft wood or plywood to the work as this will enable you to obtain a clean cut without vibration and the possibility of tearing the metal.
