I/O features
The rear of the server chassis houses I/O connectors and ports, including video, serial, Ethernet, and
USB ports. You can use an internal USB port to boot a hypervisor or operating system, freeing up disk
drive space. An integrated dual-port 1 Gb NIC provides two ports on the rear of the server.
One of the Ethernet ports shares Lights-out management traffic, reducing the need for an extra switch
port for management. If you require a dedicated management port, you can install an optional Lights-
out dedicated management port into a dedicated connector on the rear on the server.
Power efficiency
The DL2000 offers increased power efficiency over traditional servers. The HP e2000 chassis
provides industry-first common slot, hot-pluggable power supplies and localized cooling fans across
all nodes. More power supply options than any other vendor let you choose the correctly sized power
supply for your configuration, allowing your servers to run more efficiently and reducing energy costs.
As of this writing, the ProLiant DL170e G6 multi-node server rated number one in overall power
performance for all servers across all operating systems and server vendors on the Standard
Performance Evaluation Corporation SPECpower_ssj2008 benchmark. This rating reaffirms HP’s
status as industry leader in energy-efficient and high-density solutions. SPECpower_ssj2008 is the first
generation SPEC benchmark for evaluating the power and performance characteristics of server class
computers. This measurement provides a way to compare the power/performance or energy

Advanced Power Management
Along with the shared power infrastructure, HP designed the DL2000 system with advanced power
metering and power capping technologies. A collection of up to 32 smart sensors inside the server
provides unmatched monitoring functionality. These sensors track thermal activity and dynamically
adjust fans, memory, and processing to optimize system cooling and increase efficiency.
The embedded Power Interface Controller (PIC) lets you configure the system for full AC redundancy
or AC redundancy with power throttling. To maintain a pre-set power budget, the embedded PIC
monitors power consumption in each node in the chassis. HP provides a simple command-line utility
for reading and configuring the power control logic of the server nodes. Available versions include
MS Windows Server OS (2003 and 2008) and Linux OS. The Linux version requires you to install the
OS IPMI Driver. For more information about power management, see

Full AC redundancy means that the PIC logic throttles the nodes if one of the power supplies goes
down. The remaining power supply throttles up to compensate for the missing power supply. The
chassis remains online and operational.
Dynamic Power Capping is available with the Lights Out 100 Advanced Pack. As a hardware-based
implementation, Dynamic Power Capping runs independently of the OS. The power management
system determines both the minimum and maximum power consumption for the server. The server’s
power-on self-test (POST) determines these values by running a utility that measures the power
consumption in idle mode and under a simulated maximum load. Do not set the cap below the
minimum power value that the utility provides.
Setting a power cap means you do not have to set aside extra capacity for unexpected increases in
power usage, letting you allocate power and cooling resources more efficiently without sacrificing
performance. A power cap keeps your servers from tripping a circuit breaker in the case of a sudden
increase in power usage.
