Writing Applications that Use ADCCP/X21
Making an X.21 Circuit-Switched Connection
The (6) START OPERATION request and response are described in Section 6,
“Requests and Responses.”
Requesting or
X.21 networks may provide optional facilities such as call charges or call redirection.
Canceling Optional
X.21 users can request an optional facility for an indefinite period of time by issuing a
X.21 Network Facilities
“facility registration” to the DCE. The network then provides the requested facility
until the user issues a “facility cancellation.”
To register for an optional facility, your application must issue an (82) CONNECT
request that includes a facility registration block in the Text field. The coding of this
block depends on the facilities provided by your network. To cancel an optional
facility, your application issues an (82) CONNECT request that includes a facility
cancellation block in the Text field. On completion of facility registration or facility
cancellation, ADCCP/X21 returns an (82)CONNECT response with Status 100, Error
Detail 46. To determine whether the request or cancellation was successful, your
application checks the call progress signal contained in the Text field.
Making an X.21
After your application has started the link, your application can either initiate an X.21
Circuit-Switched
connection or have ADCCP/X21 wait for a call from a remote station. In either case,
Connection
your application issues a WRITEREAD call with an (82) CONNECT request.
ADCCP/X21 finishes your (82) CONNECT request as soon as a connection is
established. The request may not complete for some time, however, if your
application has ADCCP/X21 waiting for an incoming call.
Your application can have only one (82) CONNECT request pending at a time.
To cancel a pending (82) CONNECT request, the application must issue a (83)
DISCONNECT request. You may want your application to do this if it must wait for
an incoming call with an outstanding passive (83) CONNECT request but needs to
initiate a connection. To cancel the passive (82) CONNECT request, your application
issues a (83) DISCONNECT request, then issues an active (82) CONNECT request.
Inserting a Selection-Signal
The selection-signal sequence is a string of characters that your application must
Sequence
include in the Text field of (82) CONNECT requests for normal outgoing calls on
circuit-switched connections. This string contains the X.21 address of the station the
application calls, along with any optional facility request codes. The ADCCP/X21
protocol module transmits the address and any other selection signals to the DCE
during call establishment.
If your network provides special facilities such as charging information or called-line
identification, your application can include requests for these facilities in the
selection-signal sequence. Check with the network provider for the coding of any
special facility request signals.
The selection signal sequence must following these syntactic guidelines:
Your application must end the sequence with a plus character (+).
Your application can use either a full or an abbreviated address signal, according
to the conventions of your network. If you insert an abbreviated address, precede
the address with a period (.).
