Step 4. Placement of Logs—All toplogs that rest on lower logs, do so overnotches, indents or nubs. Proper logplacement is critical to prevent sooting. Logs should be placed in the gaps betweenthe flame peaks and should be positionedso they do not impinge the flames. Step 5. Position the individual logs asshown in Figures 26, 27, and 28. Logsshould be placed in the order shown. Alllogs that have notches to fit over the gratetines should be positioned with thesenotches directly against the grate.
