3. KeepoillevelatFULL.Runningtheenginewithtoolittleoilcan resultinpermanentenginedamage. Gasoline 1. Removefuelcapfromthefueltank. 2. Makesurethecontainerfromwhichyouwillpourthegasolineis cleanandfreefromrustor foreignparticles.Neverusegasoline thatmaybestalefromlongperiodsofstoragein itscontainer. Gasolinethathasbeensittingfor anyperiodlongerthanfour weeksshouldbeconsideredstale. 3. Fillfueltankwithclean,fresh,unleadedregulargasolineonly.Do not usegasolinecontainingMETHANOL.Replacefuelcap. Alcoholblendedfuels(calledgasoholor usingethanolor methanol) canattractmoisturewhichleadstoseparationand formationofacids duringstorage.Acidicgascan damagethe fuel systemof anengine whilein storage. Toavoidengineproblems,thefuel systemshouldbeemptiedbefore storagefor 30daysorlonger.Drainthe gas tank,startthe engine andletit rununtilthefuellinesandcarburetorareempty.Use freshfuelnextseason.See STORAGEInstructionsforadditional information. Neveruseengineorcarburetorcleanerproductsinthe fuel tankor permanentdamagemayoccur. NOTE:Checkthe fuel levelperiodicallyto avoid runningout of gasolinewhileoperatingthe chippershredder.Ifthe unit runsout of gas as itischipping,itmaybe necessarytounclogthedischargeareabefore itcanbe restarted.RefertoSERVICEANDMAINTENANCEsection. TO START ENGINE 1. Attachsparkplugwireandrubberboottosparkplug. 2. Filltankto nomorethan1/2inchbelowbottomoffillerneckto providespacefor fuel expansion. 3. Turnthefuelshut-offvalvetotheONposition. 4. MovethechokeleverontheenginetoCHOKEI'i,I position.(A warmenginemaynotrequirechoking.)See Figure10. 5. MovethrottlecontroltoSTART/RUN(Rabbit),_ position.See Figure10. 6. Standingbehindtheunit,graspstarterhandleandpullropeout untilyoufeel a drag. f J Figure10 12 NOTE:A noisewill be heardwhenfindingthe startof the compression cycle.Thisnoiseis causedby the flailsandfingers,whicharepartof theshreddingmechanism,andit shouldbeexpecteduntiltheimpeller reachesfull speed. 7. Pulltheropewitharapid,continuous,fullarmstroke.Keepafirm griponthe starterhandle.Letthe roperewindslowly. 8. Repeat,if necessary,untilenginestarts.Whenenginestarts, movechokecontrolgraduallytowardthe RUNI JtI position.. 9. Ifenginefalters,movechokecontrolbacktowardtheCHOKE I'o,I positionand repeatsteps5 though8. 10. ALWAYSkeepthe throttlecontrolin the START/RUNposition whenoperatingthe chippershredder. TO STOP ENGINE 1. Movethrottlecontrollevertoslow(turtle)'_ position. Wheneverpossible,graduallyreduceenginespeedbefore stoppingengine. 2. MovethrottlecontrollevertoSTOPI orOFFposition. 3. Turnthefuelshut-offvalvetotheOFFposition. 4. Disconnectsparkplugwireandgrounditagainsttheengineto preventaccidentalstartingwhilethe equipmentis unattended. SHREDDING Yardwastesuchas leavesandpineneedlescanbeplacedinthe hopperforshredding.Aftermaterialhasbeenprocessedbythe shred derbladeandflails, it will beforcedout of the chutedeflector,and, if attached,into adebriscollectionbag. Observethe followingguidelineswhenshreddingyarddebris: • Neverattemptto shredmaterialotherthan normalyarddebris (leaves,twigs,pinecones,etc.). • Avoidshreddingfibrousplantssuchastomatovines,palmfronds, etc.,untiltheyare thoroughlydriedout. Freshvinesdo notshred wellandtend to wrapthemselvesaroundthe impellerandflails. • Placereasonableamountsof debrisintothe hopperat a time. Do not overloadthe hopper. • Allowthematerialinthehoppertobedrawnintothebladesand shreddedbeforeaddingadditionaldebristo the hopper.Failureto duesomayresultin acloggedhopper,cloggedchutedeflectoror a stalledengine. CHIPPING Branchesupto3"in diametercanbefedintothechipperchute. Observethe followingguidelineswhenchippingbranches: • Keepbothhandsfirmlyonthebranchasyoufeeditintothe chipperchute. • Neverfeedmorethanonebranchintothechipperchuteatatime. • Neverfeedanythingotherthanbranches(orwood)intothe chipperchute. • Applyintermittentpressure(force,inshortpulses)whilefeeding larger(3-inchdiameter)branchesinto thechipperchute,to avoid boggingor stallingthe engine. IMPORTANT:Neverfeedbrancheswitha diametergreaterthan three(3)inchesintothechipperchute.Doingsocanresultin serious damageto yourunit'schipperblades,flailsor impeller. NOTE:Forbestperformance,alwaysoperatetheunitwith sharp chipperblades.If a noticeablelossin performanceisencountered whilechippingbranches,the chipperbladesshouldbe replaced. LOWERING THE HOPPER ASSEMBLY 1. Withonehandgraspthehandleatthetopofthehopperassemblyandlift slightly. 2. Withtheotherhandpulloutonthereleaserodandlowerthe hopperassemblyto theground. TO EMPTY BAG 1. Un-clipdrawstringandloosenbagfromchutedeflectoropening. 2. Emptybagandreattachtothedischargechuteopening.Pullon the drawstringuntilthe bagis tightaroundthe chuteopeningand clip the drawstringtightagainstthe chutedeflector. IMPORTANT:The flail screenis locatedinsidethe housingin the dischargearea. Ifthe flail screenbecomesclogged,removeand cleanas instructedintheServiceandMaintenancesection.Forbest performance,it is also importantto keepthe chipperbladessharp. 13 MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE Beforeperf...
